Mixed reviews after 2 months in Nassau. Due to the pandemic, the area we stayed in (port or downtown) or the ability to explore never really hit full stride. Most bars, restaurants, and services remained closed during our stay. I never saw the inside of Senior Frogs (closed), if you can imagine. The lack of cruise ships and day-trippers meant we never saw anything more than 30% of the resort economy open up. The UNESCO-listed historic downtown comes to life somewhat when a cruise ship docks and then shuts down just as quickly when passengers reboard. Beautiful beaches, ocean colors, and resorts in the western parts of New Providence were contrasted with very expensive prices, limited selections, and marginal quality for the general day-to-day life. Value for the money and culture is how I measure it, and in my opinion, Nassau lags in both when compared to a similar resort location in Southeast Asia, for example (COVID or not). I read that the Bahamas is the 3rd most expensive country to live in, and you see it unless you’re buying bottles of liquor or eating at McDonald’s. Highlights for me in Nassau were the public bus system, $1.25 to anywhere, and waking up every morning to those beautiful ocean greens and blues.
