That first official “retirement” trip is under the belt. After years of looking at my Harley in the garage, Katia and I headed out for 10 days and 2,000+ miles through Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and North / South Carolina. The “Smokies” are spectacular, and we were blessed with some great riding weather. The highlight for me was the Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Cherohala Skyway. Low points were riding in the rain and overpacking—not too many low points. The Road King is a beast. Designed more for the flat, straight roads of Florida vs. the “twisties” in the Carolinas, but that opinion is likely due to the experience level of the rider.
